Objective

The Northern Marmara line bypasses central Istanbul entirely, connecting Gebze, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, and Halkalı with a dedicated 125 km double-track rail. This allows 24/7 continuous rail freight moving from Central Asia directly into the European rail network. Once completed, the bypass will link the country's European and Asian rail networks. It is projected to carry 33 million passengers and 30 million tonnes of freight annually.

Description

The Northern Marmara High Speed Railway (also known as the Istanbul North Rail Crossing) acts as the vital bypass and heavy-capacity link for the Middle Corridor. By routing passenger and freight trains over the Bosporus Strait via the new Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, it relieves the urban-congested Marmaray tunnel, radically accelerating trans-Eurasian trade
