Objective

This facility is designed to significantly increase the port’s annual handling capacity by allowing multiple large vessels to dock simultaneously, thereby improving cargo handling efficiency.

Description

"A berth of 1,200 m in length is being constructed, out of the aggregate length of “BERTH 100” which amounts to 1,680 m overall, a depth of 18 m, an area of approximately 840,000 m3, and a capacity up to 1.5 million TEUs/year. The establishment of the terminal with such depth aims at allowing the terminal to receive gigantic vessels with a length of 400 meters. The rest of the area of “BERTH 100” will be used in the handling of general and ro-ro cargoes so as to increase the volume of handled containers and cargoes."

History

The primary container terminal operations are managed by a major global maritime consortium led by Hutchison Ports as the main operator, in direct partnership with MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) and COSCO. Under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession contract with the Alexandria Port Authority, this alliance is responsible for the terminal's superstructure, long-term commercial management, and maintenance
