This report is an initial effort to record and map environmental movements and initiatives in Crete. Although numerous initiatives and collectives in the region are active on these issues, this map records most of them, emphasizing those that are most active or have played a pivotal role in managing and resisting in relevant issues. The purpose of this mapping is to highlight the spatial distribution of these movements across the island, outline their main actions and directions, and identify nodes and interconnections among them. As a preliminary overview shows, there are some island-wide movements with broad scope, followed by three distinct categories: movements focused on energy issues in Crete, which make up the vast majority; movements primarily concerned with water issues; and those addressing overtourism. A key characteristic of these movements is that, although they develop locally in individual communities and villages across Crete, their actions and core concerns address issues that ultimately affect the entire island. In this way, these movements take on a pan-Cretan dimension and end up engaging in dialogue and connecting directly with one another.
